Viola Davis Was Shocked By Jared Leto’s Extreme Tricks

Viola Davis, who played Amanda Waller in the Suicide Squad, talked of her time on the film set along with other A-listers. The Woman King Is Another Win For Viola Davis

The Woman King is the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with their fierce skills. Inspired by true events, the film follows the emotionally epic journey of the leader of the unit played by Viola Davis who fights for the pride and honor of her land. The film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood received praise for its powerful portrayal of African women led by a group of dynamic female actors. To quote the New York Times,

“The Woman King is about strong, dynamic Black women, their souls, minds, and bodies. You don’t need to be a scholar of old Hollywood, which divided Black performers in hierarchies of color, typecasting darker actors in servant roles, to grasp the greater implications of Prince-Bythewood foregrounding women like Davis, Sheila Atim, and Lashana Lynch — it’s galvanizing”
