Only Fools and Horses: The rock and roll superstar whose sister used to date David Jason
This is a connection no-one would have expected
Sir David Jason made his name as the ever-optimistic and scheming Del Boy Trotter, shooting to stardom in the 1980s on Only Fools and Horses.
He tickled the funny bone of the nation as Del Boy and became a household name, but long before he became a star, David was already rubbing shoulders with rock stars.
Back in the early 1970s, David, just in his 30s, was dating a young woman named Carole Collins. The pair were on and off for a few years while she still lived at home with her parents and her brother Phil.
If you’re thinking, surely not that Phil Collins you’re exactly right. The In the Air Tonight singer was a member of the successful prog rock band Genesis alongside Peter Gabriel at the time.
Thanks to David’s relationship with Carole, the first rock concert he ever went to was at at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in 1974 where Genesis played with Phil on drums.
David and Phil would share similar success in the 1980s as Only Fools went from strength to strength and Phil made it big as a solo artist, performing at the iconic Live Aid concert in 1985 alongside the likes of Queen and Elton John.
In the end Carole and David went their separate ways though and David coupled up with Myfanwy Talog in 1977, the two sharing a loving partnership until her sad death 18 years later from breast cancer.
David has gone on to marry a new partner Gill Hinchcliffe in 2005 and the two have one daughter together, Sophie Mae, 21.
