Only Fools and Horses

The Only Fools and Horses scene which scared David Jason more than any other

There weren't too many scary stunts over the course of the sitcoms run, but this one had Sir David thinking twice

Sir David Jason is one of the legends of British TV and is one of the best known stars of his generation, but even iconic actors like him can get scared by the odd scene. Even still, you wouldn’t think that there were many scenes in Only Fools that could be considered scary, but recently the Derek Trotter star revealed exactly which scene had him most shaken.

It was whilst speaking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain that he made the admission, where they were discussing some of the daredevil stunts performed by Cirque du Soleil, whose 2022 show was premiering at the Royal Albert Hall that night.

Speaking on the red carpet, David, 82, said: “When I did Fools and Horses, I had to do one of those skydivers, and they had to fly that. Well, I can fly, I’m a qualified glider pilot, and I also can fly helicopters.

“But back then, to fly one of those things, which was hanging in the air by the seat of your pants, hang gliders. Well that was pretty scary, I must admit. So I’ve done quite a lot of stunts if you like, entertaining you people and the good people out there.”

David is of course referring to the immensely popular Tea for Three episode from season five in which Rodney and Del Boy compete for the interests of Trigger’s attractive niece Lisa. This culminates in Del Boy jumping off the side of a hill hang gliding with no prior experience, Rodney sabotaging his escape plan at the last minute as revenge for Del burning his face in a sunbed.

David didn’t film all of the stunt himself though, as although he wanted to do all of the hang gliding, some of the scenes in the episode used stuntman Ken Barker to avoid any potential injuries to the star.
