Jason Manford urges people to seek help for depression after Robin Williams found dead in ‘apparent suicide’

THE comedian said if depression can kill "one of the world's greatest funny men, it can get any of us at any time".

COMEDIAN Jason Manford has posted a message urging those suffering from depression to seek help after Robin Williams was found dead at his Californian home after apparently committing suicide following his own battle with it.

On hearing the news that the Hollywood actor tragically passed away aged 63, Manford wrote: “RIP Robin Williams. So unbelievably sad about this news. One of the funniest talented comedians the world has never produced.”

“Just because you’re struggling, doesn’t mean you’re falliing.”

He then followed it up with a long post telling those who feel “anxious and low” and those suffering from a “deep sadness but can’t find a root cause,” to seek help.

“If depression can (allegedly) kill Robin Williams, one of the world’s greatest funny men, well it can get any of us at any time.

“If the Genie from Aladdin can suffer and the DJ in Good Morning Vietnam can be affected by it, then so can you, or your child or friend or work colleague,” he wrote.

He added: “The world needs you even if you don’t think it does. I promise, we need you here, now.”

Robin Williams was just 63 years old when he passed away at his home in California.

His wife, graphic designer, Susan Schneider led tributes to the actor last night, saying the world had lost one of its most beloved artists.

Susan, who married the star in October 2011, said: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings.

“I am utterly heartbroken.

“As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said that Williams was found unconscious yesterday afternoon at about 12:00pm inside his residence in Tiburon near San Francisco.

An investigation into the cause and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, officials said.

Police said that Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife Susan Schneider, at approximately 10:00 pm on Sunday.
